#671 Execution slowdown when TAM enabled

  • Fixed

    , last edited by Jarvis

    Reproduction steps:

    0.- Install VLC 3.0.4 x64

    1.- Enable TAM

2.- Open an audio mp3 file

3.- VLC takes more than 30 seconds to open and start to reproduce the mp3 file

4.- If You close VLC and try again, will open fast, but with every new session, or in the same session after some time, again You may get slowdown execution VLC.

I'm not getting this behaviour with all applications + TAM enabled, but probably it is reproducible with others.

I already reported this behaviour some years ago during beta testing of previous build of Kaspersky KIS/KTS.

    Actual result:

VLC takes more than 30 seconds to open.

    Expected Result:

VLC should open in about 1 ~ 2 seconds.

  • @harlan4096 thank you аor your time !

  • @Dmitriy.Pisarets:

It seems the issue is fixed, now opening a mp3 file with VLC in my system and TAM enabled (for the 1st time ina Windows session) takes about 3 or 4 seconds which is  reasonable :)

    Thanks!

  • Thanks, let me a bit of time and I'll confirm soon!

  • @harlan4096, hello! Can you try to reproduce it with new version? Problem should be already fixed.

Ok, this is the 1st delivering, includes:

    * Full TAM traces during enabling/analysis.

    * Xperf debug traces of 1st VLC execution after TAM enabling.

Will collect more traces to reproduce "long time" slowdown soon...

Traces (1,3GB compressed of more than 19GB of raw data): https://cloud.qainfo.ru/s/Rx5GSL20lHmsi7V

  • @harlan4096, Yeap, it's look right.

Shall I use this trace.cmd file to collect xperf traces?

xperf -on base+cswitch+compact_cswitch+fileio -stackwalk profile -buffersize 1024

    pause

    xperf -d trace.etl

  • Yes! I was waiting for the new build! installing it now!

  • Hello! Just want to remind that we looking forward traces from you. Thanks for understanding!

  • @harlan4096, take your time )

  • Ok, let me some days, I have to install Microsoft Windows AD Kit (xperf) and try to reproduce again the process...

  • @harlan4096, Hello!

Developers ask for full traces from the very beginning:

1 Please, set traces to maximum level

2 Enable TAM (let it finish software analyze)

3 Start xperf  (only after TAM is enabled)

    4 Open mp3 with VLC

5 Please, try to reproduce "long time" mp3 start for second time  ("...every new session, or in the same session after some time...")
